A new political party named GOGOT for Unity and Justice was formed on Sunday, March 12, 2023 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The inauguration ceremony, held at the Wabi Shebele Hotel in Addis Ababa, was attended by more than 600 participants from different parts of the country, backgrounds and walks of life. The party is dedicated to addressing the many socio-economic issues that affect the Gurage people, both within their region and on a national level.
The party’s leadership and members believe that the Gurage community has been historically marginalized and overlooked by the government and mainstream political parties. They seek to change this narrative by highlighting the challenges faced by the community and proposing solutions that can bring about positive change. The party’s vision is to promote unity, justice, and fairness for all Ethiopians, with a particular focus on the Gurage people.
One of the main goals on GOGOT’s agenda is to advocate for the creation of a Gurage region within Ethiopia. The party believes that such a region would provide the Gurage people with greater autonomy and control over their own affairs, while also addressing long-standing issues related to political representation, economic development, and cultural preservation.
With a mission to address a range of socio-economic issues affecting the Gurage community, GOGOT for Unity and Justice intends to become a significant political force in Ethiopia.
