Since Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed and his ruling Prosperity Party came to power, there have been concerns about the distortion of Ethiopian history, specifically Gurage history. The Prosperity Party, particularly the Oromo Prosperity Party, has been accused of claiming Gurage history as their own, even though it is not a part of Oromo culture. They have implemented strategies such as publishing false information about Gurage history in books sponsored by the party and land grabbing from Gurage regions to incorporate them into the Oromo region.
It is crucial to challenge these distortions and present the truth to the public. One effective way to accomplish this is by providing the public with accurate and fact-based books and research papers about the Gurage community. In this regard, we extend our appreciation to Samrawit Kibru Haile, a partner at Qawa Press, who has compiled a list of original and fact-based resources about Gurage. Today, we will showcase the first round of books and research papers about Gurage written by scholars who have extensively researched Gurage history.
